The broad spectrum of use of sodium hypochlorite can be divided into three groups :
1) Uses for domestic purposes : as a disinfectant and antibacterial treatment for bleaching fabrics, chemical dissolution of sanitary deposits ;
2) Use for industrial purposes : industrial bleaching fabrics , wood pulp and other products , industrial disinfection and sanitary- hygienic handling , cleaning and disinfection of drinking water for public water supply systems , cleaning and decontamination of industrial waste , chemical industry ;
3) The use in medicine : Antiseptic solutions of sodium hypochlorite are used for external and local application as an antiviral , antifungal and antibacterial agent in the processing of skin, mucous membranes and wounds. In surgery , dentistry, dermatology , gynecology;
Sodium hypochlorite is also used :
• In the textile industry and in industrial laundries ;
• In the pulp and paper industry ;
• In the preparation of hydrazine in industrial organic synthesis, laboratory organic syntheses ;
• How reagent ;
• In the hydrometallurgical production for decontamination of toxic liquid and gaseous waste ;
• In the electrochemical production as an etchant for germanium and gallium arsenide ;
• In the food and pharmaceutical industries for the production of modified starch
